Monophonics filled Fulton 55 with soul. The group from the Bay came down and put on a wonderful performance in front of an almost packed house. They played soulful, groovy song after soulful, groovy song and left everyone with smiles on their faces.
Front and center, was the singer and keyboardist. He sang with emotion and in a higher register, and if he didn't have to be stationary to play the keys I'm positive he would have been dancing all over the stage. As it was, he was barely staying in his seat. By the end of the show he was drenched in sweat, but was as emotional and engaged as he was at the beginning.
To his right was the horn section, and they were the highlight of the night. Their melodies provided perfect accents to the melody of the vocals, kind of like a syncopated call and response pattern.
I stopped taking notes almost as soon as the show began, because I just wanted to sit there and soak it all in. I will see them again if given the opportunity with no hesitation.
