Evangile, a one woman show, started the evening by singing down tempo goth songs over synthy beats. She’s an expressive dancer, but in a forlorn way. Like she’s grieving something. I’m not the best at hearing lyrics, so I don’t know exactly what she was singing about, but I imagine the tone of her songs matches her anguished dancing. I do know for sure though, that she sang at least one song in French and I’m pretty sure she sang one in Spanish as well. Overall she put on a solid show, but the inherent nature of her songs and singing don’t lend themselves to getting a crowd energized, and the Wednesday night crowd at Summer Fox’s Tower location definitely needed energizing (me included). She has the core qualities of a good act, and I’m interested to see how she grows over the coming years. Someone else on stage playing an instrument or mixing would be a great start.

Pink Stiletto took the stage next with sultry, sexy, seductive dancing and singing over gothy synth beats, with just a little bit of industrial influence. She is more of a performer at this point than a singer and a musician, although she did say she had written all her songs herself and was actively mixing her songs during their intros. It was not explicitly stated that she had produced all her songs, but I think she has. On a similar note to Evangile, her live shows would be more impactful if someone was on stage with her playing drums or keys or synths or actively mixing. But to her credit, she got the crowd moving and energized all by herself. Another similarity to Evangile is that she could be really good but has room to grow. However, to be honest, at this point I’m thinking that part of the low energy problem might be due to the venue or equipment or sound mixing. Summer Fox is an awkward place for this kind of music and the speakers might also be a little underpowered. Not a good combo for dance music that you want to feel in your bones and lose yourself in. Or maybe it’s just me and I’m in a melancholy mood tonight (which is true) and it’s influencing my perception of the music and vibes. :shrugemoji:

Vioflesh came on to close the night out, and put an exclamation on my impressions of the night so far. They are a two person group, with one vocalist and one guy playing keys/synths. The increased energy was evident with the second person and actual musician on stage. The music itself was very similar to the first two acts but the addition of the second person made a noticeable increase in the energy, but it's still a weird venue for this kind of music.
