Sleek Teeth got the night started. They're an electronic duo based in Los Angeles. Both of them are singing, both of them are facing each other with a mixing station in front of themselves, one of them is beating on an electronic drum kit, both of them are putting on a theatric performance. Most of their songs have an 80s dance club sound, like I’m in a night club in Miami Vice or Scarface, or maybe just a club sound in general. In all honesty I don’t really know a ton about dance music or the different genres and their origins, so maybe this is what a club in Berlin sounds like, because some of the songs have a more industrial sound. This could be techno, it could be house, it could be trance... I have no idea.

They have alright voices, nothing special, but it doesn’t matter because the singing is an accompaniment to the dance beats. And they are some great, danceable beats. It was effortless for them to get most people in the venue dancing (including me... but really I'll dance to almost anything). The bass was pounding and driving, with counterpoint melodies in higher octaves, and the occasional synth soaring above all of it, which is when they were at their best. But admittedly I'm a huge sucker for synths.

ULTRA SUNN is an electronic trio from Belgium. A lot like SLEEK TEETH, and here, again, my lack of knowledge regarding dance music is leaving me absent the words to describe just how fucking amazing they are. All I can is say that it’s rave music and I feel like I should be able to look up and see and worship Disco Shark, the god of the Yuma tent at Coachella and guardian of all who dance within it's air conditioned confines.

The singer has a deep baritone that counters the synths against the backdrop of the locomotive bass and drumbeats. Although, to be fair, calling the bass and snares and high hats that make up the beat, with all of its four on the floor, with added syncopation glory, just a backdrop is a disservice. They are the reason everyone is here and almost everyone is dancing. One of their songs is popular enough for the crowd to sing back to them, or maybe it’s just because they put the lyrics on the screen. We'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it’s because they’re just that popular.... but either way the crowd was into it enough and connecting with the music enough to sing with full voices.

This show was organized by an entity calling itself Disorder, and it seems like put on a show like this roughly every month with dark, synthy, gothy, 80s sounding music, and I'm looking forward to the next one already.
